The Department of Zoology was introduced as a general course in 1984 and as an honours course in 1996. The theoretical as well as practical classes of M.Sc. in Distant Mode under Vidyasagar University were also held in the department where distinguished scholars from different institutions came to took classes. A student of Zoology is welcome everywhere, be it Environmental Journalism, Forest Services, Agricultural Research Institute, Fishery Institute, Sericulture or such other Institutes as Microbial Research Institutes etc. An important event of the course curriculum is academic field work and Zoological excursions. Excursions (local and out station excursion) are conducted for the betterment of the students. The excursion and field work programmes are compulsory and necessary for the future academic skill developments of the students.
