Canteen is an ancillary service provided by the College authority. The college has two Canteens. They function with “no profit, no loss “. 1. The Staff Canteen: Its operation, management and maintenance are under control of the Teachers Council of the College. The teaching and nonteaching staff of the college is the users. One of the teachers takes up supervision of the canteen activities and operations for one year as additional charges alongwith his academic responsibilities.He monitors altogether the entire procedure starting from purchasing, handling, storage,serving and sale of nutritious food. Daily menu is circulated online to all teachers. Interested teachers place their tiffin requisition and accordingly get their tiffin prepared and served in the canteen. A mini consumer store is also attached to the staff canteen. Cakes, biscuits, snacks can be bought from the store. Quality of food served and sold is thoroughly monitored. There is a refrigerator in the canteen that helps preserve excess food as well as raw food items. Carbonated drinks, cigarettes and intoxicating beverages are strictly prohibited in the canteen. The canteen is spacious and has big windows that allow ample light inside the room during the daytime.It is air conditioned, thus, comfortable during summer too. 2. The Student’s Canteen: The Student’s canteen provides a space where students from different spheres and facets of the society who come to study in this college can enjoy a meal, mingle and form tight bonding among them. But, it is a well-known fact that nutrition and academic performance of students are interdependent. Also, students who are dependent upon their meager allowances are the customers of the student canteen. A Self-help group is entrusted to monitor the modus operandi of student’s canteen. They take care that Canteen personnel and staff involved in preparation and serving of food and beverages are healthy, are following safety norms during food handling and are wearing clean and proper attire. Carbonated drinks, cigarettes and intoxicating beverages are strictly prohibited in the canteen. There is a refrigerator in the canteen that helps preserve excess food and raw food items. Student’s canteen tries to impart desirable food eating habits among students as well. A supervisor takes care that students are not bunking classes to enjoy meals in the canteens.
